Jul 24, 2020

On July 24, Ambassador Paroz welcomed a delegation of the Barrier Free Project together with a child with disabilities to his Residence. The aim of this meeting is to foster an exchange with families of disabled children in order to deepen the understanding for one another and facilitate the creation of a barrier-free society.

Certified by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and supported by the Economic Affairs Bureau Yokohama city, the 2020 Japan Barrier Free Project has been established to convey the importance of a more inclusive society ahead of and beyond the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The members of the project are planning to visit 150 embassies in Tokyo and connect them with children with disabilities – a journey that will be documented on video and published in book form.

The event at the Residence included an interview with the Ambassador about his ideas of a barrier-free society, presentations by Kemet Japan Co. Ltd. on their initiatives relating to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), a video message from Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga, and the game Boccia that was played together with the child.
